Ta Dah! Holiday Socks

Wow, well this is a bit of a first – I've completed two pairs of socks finished in less than two weeks!

These socks were started whilst I lounged across my parents sofa on Christmas Eve. Somewhat predictably then, I've named them Holiday Socks

The pattern I used was for a basic top down sock, which I constructed based on the directions found in The Sock Knitters Handbook (a book that I really, really recommend for all sock knitters. It never leaves my sock knitting project bag). I started with a K2, P2 rib for the cuff before deciding to switch over to a garter rib for the remainder of the sock.

A garter rib pattern goes as follows –

Row 1: K2, P2 for one round/row

Row 2: K one row plain.

Repeat rows 1 & 2 throughout.

I'd never tried garter rib on socks before – to be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever used it in any of my knitting projects - but I'm really impressed with the effect it gives to the self-striping yarn. I think this will definitely become a fall back when I'm making man sized socks and don't want to become too bored with just plain knitting.

Needles: 2.25mm DPNs (KnitPro Nova)

You might have guessed that I've already cast on another pair (I'm addicted I tell you, addicted!). It looks like sock projects will be leading the way for at least another few weeks as my Mother has asked that I make her a pair for her birthday in February and another for Mothers Day. I better get my needles moving!

I'm interested in trying new patterns for Mum's socks. Do you have any recommendations? What are your favourite socks patterns of all time?
